Trapeze Quilt

Hooray, hooray! It’s Trapeze Quilt release day!

This new design from Sharon Holland is such a great pattern! I don’t usually make the same pattern more than once or twice, but I have a feeling I’ll be returning to make this one again and again. I’m pretty fond of this version because I love how the oranges and florals mixed with the grayish teal in this quilt give it an autumn feel that’s different from your average autumn color palette. This is also officially the biggest quilt I’ve ever made! (You can be sure I will not be attempting to quilt this on my machine at home.)

I’ve been trying to step out of my comfort zone of Kona Snow backgrounds. So when making my fabric choices, I decided to go with something a little bolder for the background. This quilt top is made entirely of Art Gallery Fabrics.

I purchased my fabric for this quilt from Lori at The Grey Finch Company. She has a great selection of Art Gallery Fabric prints and Pure Solids. (She also carries some other favorites like Cotton & Steel and Figo.) Lori was great to work with and got these shipped out to me fast!

If I’m being honest, cutting is not my favorite part of the quilting process. Also, I have a bad habit of pushing my rotary cutter blades past their limit and trudging through with a dull blade. Why I do that to myself, I do not know.

There are lots of chain piecing opportunities in this pattern! Getting to zone out and just chain piece away may be my favorite part of any quilt pattern. (I got through quite a bit of the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows audiobook piecing this quilt.) My machine is a Janome Horizon Memory Craft 8900QCP. I love my Janome!

I always have to get my first block together before I construct all the block elements. I’m too impatient and I need to see what it’s going to look like.

After I got all my pieces together, this huge quilt came together really fast! Today, it’s finally ready for it’s big reveal!

I had such a great time testing this pattern. Sharon has pulled together such an amazing group of pattern testers and making this quilt together with them made it so much more fun. This pattern is available now at Sharon Holland Designs! To see all of the beautiful tester quilts, visit #trapezequilt on Instagram, or head over to Sharon Holland Designs Blog.
